On June 5, 2004, some 40 guests watch as the pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez weds her third husband, the singer Marc Anthony, in an intimate ceremony held in the backyard of Lopez’s home in Los Angeles.

Lopez was born in 1970 in the Bronx, New York, and went on to earn admiration in Hollywood as a “triple threat.” She originally worked as a dancer (most famously as a “Fly Girl” in the popular television series In Living Color), but soon earned notice as an actor for her portrayal of the murdered Tejana pop singer Selena in a 1997 biopic. She developed a reputation as a bankable film star after her role as federal marshal Karen Sisco in Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight in 1998, and released her debut Latin pop album in June 1999. Two years later, her album J.Lo debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. pop charts just as her romantic comedy The Wedding Planner shot to the top spot at the box office in the first week of its release.

Prior to her marriage to Anthony, Lopez had previously been married to Ojani Noa from February 1997 to January 1998 and to Cris Judd, a dancer who appeared in the video for her hit song “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” from September 2001 to January 2003. Lopez also had a long-term romance with the rapper and entertainment mogul Sean “Puffy” Combs, and was famously on the scene during the shooting involving his entourage at a New York City nightclub in December 1999. By the time her divorce from Judd was official, Lopez had already announced her engagement to the actor Ben Affleck. Their highly publicized romance–which included a co-starring appearance in the notorious bomb Gigli (2003)–officially ended in early 2004, and Affleck later sold the 6.1 carat, $1.2 million diamond engagement ring he had bought Lopez back to its original seller, Harry Winston.

Six months later, Lopez married Anthony, whose divorce from his wife of four years, the former Miss Universe Dayonara Torres, had been finalized less than a week earlier. Lopez and Anthony, who were both born in New York City, of Puerto Rican descent, first dated in 1999, after her marriage to Noa ended. Anthony and Torres married in 2000, then split for good in late 2003, around the time that Lopez called off her engagement to Affleck.

Appearing on NBC’s Today shortly after their wedding, Anthony refused to confirm that he and Lopez were married, telling the show’s anchorman, Matt Lauer: “I have nothing to say about anything. My life is my life, that’s the only thing I have.” Lopez finally confirmed the marriage publicly in February 2005. The couple’s professional collaborations included Lopez’s first full-length Spanish-language album, Como Ama una Mujer (2007), which Anthony co-produced; and the feature film El Cantante (2007), starring Anthony as the Puerto Rican salsa singer Hector Lavoe and Lopez (who also produced the film) as his wife.

Lopez and Anthony divorced in 2012.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's Official Relationship Timeline

Before there was Marc Anthony and Alex Rodriguez, and Jennifer Garner and Ana de Armas, there was Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck.

Bennifer was the It couple of the early aughts. Though the two ultimately went their separate ways in 2004, a recent vacation to Montana might indicate the resurrection of one of Hollywood's favorite romances.

Ahead, we take a stroll down memory lane and track Ben and Jen's relationship history, from how they met to the stunning pink diamond that Affleck proposed with and beyond.

CRIS JUDD

The backup dancer first connected with Lopez in 2000 when he was hired for her "Love Don't Cost a Thing" video. They tied the knot in September 2001, but had filed for divorce by July 2002. It was Lopez's second marriage after her 1997 to 1998 union with model/waiter Ojani Noa.

"Coming out of a torrid relationship, I meet this sweet person who's so refreshing," Lopez later told Vibe about embarking on a whirlwind romance with Judd after ending things with Combs. "But marriage is not just about love. I thought I had learned that in my first marriage . I loved Cris, still love him, he's one of the best people. This wasn't an easy thing to walk away from, but we didn't have what it takes to make a marriage work."

Jennifer Lopez explains why she married Marc Anthony

Jennifer Lopez has been open about the highs and lows in her marriage with ex-husband and father of her children, Marc Anthony. In her 2014 book, “True Love,” she’s candidly discussed what it was like splitting up with Anthony, how she invited him to sing on her tour with her shortly after their divorce, and so on. Now, more info has come out about how JLO originally decided to marry her ex-husband of 10 years.

According to “True Love,” Lopez explained that she was heartbroken after her breakup with ex-fiancé, actor Ben Affleck. JLO explained that she was publicly known to hop from one relationship to the next but revealed that’s how she coped with heartbreak and pain.

“Ben and I split up at the moment when I thought we were committing to each other forever,” wrote Lopez. “It was my first real heartbreak it felt like my heart had been torn out of my chest. And when the realization that I wasn’t going to have the fairy tale family I wanted really set in, well, that was when I really started to fall apart.”

In her book, the singer went on to explain how she ended up starting a relationship with Anthony. She said at the time she thought her and Anthony were meant to be together considering she ran into the singer a few days after she was supposed to marry Affleck, so she took their meet up as a sign. Lopez and Anthony had a history as they first dated back in 1999. After that, they went on to date other people before rekindling at this time in Lopez’s life.

“We thought that this was where everything was supposed to lead, that we were meant to end up together,” wrote Lopez in her book. “All the heartache and pain of my recent breakup couldn’t have been for nothing, could it? Maybe I had to go through the bad so I could end up with the person I was mean to be with all along,” as stated in “True Love.”

Lopez said in her book that since Anthony felt familiar to her, she thought they were actually supposed to end up together. “And that was the moment when Marc reappeared in my life,” wrote Lopez. “Marc and I had been friends for a number of years. We’d worked together on a few songs, and we’d sung a duet for my first record, titled “No Me Ames” (ironically, “Don’t Love Me” in Spanish). Right from the beginning, he never made it a secret that he liked me,” she wrote in “True Love.”

Lopez said she turned to Anthony since she didn’t want to be alone at this difficult time her in life. “We make our own choices, and I chose to believe that Marc and I were meant to be together—that destiny was stepping in,” wrote Lopez. “In that moment, I needed to believe that I needed to believe in something. The reality was, I didn’t want to be alone—so when Marc was there, when he met me with his big smile, his heart on his sleeve, and his arms open wide, I was more than happy to let myself fall into them.”

An Ode to Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's Relationship

This summer, Jennifer Lopez turns 50. To commemorate the multi-hyphenate's birthday on July 24th, we&rsquore counting down with 50 Days of J.Lo, a celebration of the woman who&rsquos shown us all by example how to be ageless&mdashinside and out.

That translates to, Oh, how I miss them! in Spanish, an adequate summary of my melodramatic thoughts about Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony&rsquos romance. When these two were together, in my opinion, they were as trendy as Sonny and Cher, as sexy as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and as cool as Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. In other words: they were iconic, an untouchable Hollywood couple that captured a particular moment in our pop-culture lexicon.

Before I explain how, exactly, the pair touched the lives of Latinos like myself, let&rsquos revisit their dating history. Lopez, 49, and Marc Anthony, 50,&mdashtwo New Yorkers of Puerto Rican descent&mdashfamously met in 1998, when the two-time Grammy winner performed in the Broadway show The Capeman. Before they would go on to release epic duets together and eventually fell in love, Anthony married and divorced former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres (whom he has two children with), while Lopez dated Diddy, married and divorced Chris Judd, and eventually became engaged to then broke up with Ben Affleck.

But the chemistry between Lopez and Anthony was obvious way back in the music video for Lopez&rsquos 1999 song &ldquoNo Me Ames&rdquo (more on that later). His first-ever words to her? &ldquoOne day you&rsquore going to be my wife,&rdquo Anthony told her, according to her memoir, True Love. However, it wasn&rsquot until June of 2004 that they wed in a private at-home ceremony in Beverly Hills. Four years later, they welcomed twins Max and Emme on February 22, 2008. And then. well, in 2011, they announced their separation&mdashprompting immediate heartbreak for each other and, selfishly, fans like myself.

Look, I get that Anthony isn&rsquot as famous to Americans as say, George Clooney. Some folks may have even only recently heard of him as her ex (if you're one of them, here are a few fun facts for you) after his 11-year-old daughter with Lopez, Emme, has come out as a talented singer in her own right. He&rsquos also recognizable from the many photos Lopez posts with him, her children, and her new fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, on social media, teaching us all a lesson in what a healthy, fully-functional blended family looks like.

But for the Latin America community and Latinos like myself, their love for each other during their marriage served as an emblem of what passion can look like&mdashone that people from Colombia to Nicaragua to the Dominican Republic and yes, Puerto Rico, regularly speak of and still feel nostalgic for. It&rsquos not that Lopez and Anthony were the first major Latino couple to go mainstream with their love (looking at you, Emilio and Gloria Estefan), it&rsquos that the timing of their coupling fell during the early 2000s, at the height of our culture&rsquos obsession with gossip rags and stories that opened the curtains to the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

Oh, and then there was the music.

Not only did Lopez and Anthony allow us to witness their affection for one another on the red carpet and eventually in film (they co-starred in the Héctor Lavoe biopic El Cantante), but their soulful vocals soared loudly through Latino households like my own, filling living rooms (salas), kitchens (cocinas), and bedrooms (cuartos) with joy and confirmation that as Latinos, we belonged.

The duo made their official debut as a couple while performing &ldquoEscapemonos&rdquo at the 2005 Grammys together. According to MTV, Lopez starred in Anthony&rsquos &ldquoContra La Corriente&rdquo music video right around the time they met. And in 1999, they recorded the dreamy ballad &ldquoNo Me Ames&rdquo off her debut album, On the 6. Together, they moved on to become frequent collaborators: she cast his daughter Arianna in her &ldquoGet Right&rdquo music video he made guest appearances while she judged American Idol and even after their breakup, they consistently fueled rumors of a joint, post-breakup Spanish language album.

It&rsquos &ldquoNo Me Ames&rdquo&mdashwhich, if translated, opens with the dramatic lyrics, &ldquoTell me why you cry / of happiness / and why are you drowning? / For loneliness&rdquo&mdashthat literally has made fans like me cry and pine for the days when these two were together.

Lopez and Anthony have other duets, but it's this hit in particular&mdashwhich peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart in 1999&mdashthat draws up so many memories for people like me who listened to it with family. Growing up in a Spanish-only Miami home like mine, my playlist shuffled back and forth between 2000s phenoms (think: Britney Spears and *NSYNC) and the records of Latino icons like Celia Cruz, Oscar D&rsquoLeón, and yes, Marc Anthony.

When I&rsquod play Spears&rsquo &ldquo&hellipBaby One More Time,&rdquo the immigrant women in my family would bop their heads and ask, &ldquoQue quiere decir eso?" ("What does that mean?") But when &ldquoNo Me Ames&rdquo came on, we all not only understood the lyrics, but appreciated the artists crooning for us. The song gave us something to talk about, and we used it as a tool for getting to know each other better, despite the cultural differences that arise in immigrant-American households. Even my friends&mdashwho often felt embarrassed to embrace the Latino traditions we&rsquod later fully appreciate&mdashfell in love with the song.

&ldquoI was such a huge fan of his music in Spanish,&rdquo Lopez told Billboard about the collaboration, explaining that she said to Anthony, &ldquoMaybe we should do something in Spanish, I just love your music.&rdquo Dan Shea, who produced the ballad version, also recently opened up about the song, admitting their chemistry while recording was undeniable: &ldquoThere was definitely a strong creative connection. When Jennifer was singing her part, Marc would stand next to her. He would throw ideas. Because it was in Spanish, there was an immediate personal bond that came into play. I mean, this was a love song.&rdquo

I use &ldquoNo Me Ames&rdquo as an example because, while the song itself is a fan favorite, people also came to cherish the times when it was sung by a real-life couple. For so many Latinos, it&rsquos the very first thing that comes to mind each time Lopez and Anthony reunite on stage&mdashand even after their breakup, they&rsquove saved it for only the most special of occasions. In her 2014 HBO documentary Dance Again, we see thousands of people quite literally burst into tears and shake when Lopez surprises her fans in Puerto Rico with an appearance by Anthony to sing the tune. I, too, would lose my mind if I had the opportunity to catch them singing &ldquoNo Me Ames&rdquo together&mdashor even if they sung another duet, as they did with their remake of "Olvídame y Pega la Vuelta" at the 2016 Latin Grammys before jokingly sharing a kiss&mdashand, of course, fueling speculation of a rekindled romance.

All of this is to say that regardless of where they stand today, their relationship simply made&mdashand makes&mdashpeople happy. Lopez and Anthony finalized their divorce in June 2014, with J.Lo getting primary custody of Max and Emme. And though their post-divorce relationship took some time to iron out, they&rsquove gotten to a place where they can successfully co-parent.

&ldquo[Anthony] was devastated when they split, and he will always be a part of her life because of their similar backgrounds, their kids, and their love of music and performing,&rdquo a source told People in 2016. A year later, Lopez opened up during Live with Kelly about their split, admitting she would not get back together with Anthony: &ldquoI think we&rsquore really good the way we are. Honestly, we&rsquore always gonna be great friends&hellipWe share something very special in the kids, and we know that. We&rsquore there for them. That&rsquos the main thing.&rdquo

It is, of course, our responsibility as fans to honor and respect the decisions of celebrities we adore, and I have so much respect for the way they've managed to create a blended family and maintain their friendship post-breakup. But a not-so-little part of me secretly wishes Lopez and Anthony could have stayed together&mdashthat they could have made it work for my own selfish entertainment. But as Lopez said, they seem happier &ldquothe way they are.&rdquo And whenever I yearn for the days when their coupledom made headlines, I know I can always turn on &ldquoNo Me Ames&rdquo and reminisce nostalgically, if only for a few minutes, on one of our culture's most romantic moments.

Alex Rodriguez

Before all this **gestures broadly**, J-Rod not only seemed like the ultimate power couple&mdashbut each other's biggest cheerleaders. On March 10, 2019, the couple announced their engagement news on Instagram, posting a photo of J.Lo's ring along with a string of heart emojis.

Alex gushed about his fiancé&rsquos Super Bowl performance in February 2020&mdashand more recently, posed in a sheet mask for the launch of J.Lo Beauty.

And just this past Valentine's Day, J.Lo shared on Instagram that February was the couple&rsquos "special month" (it&rsquos when they met and she learned that A-Rod has a "wickedly funny sense of humor").

The couple originally planned to get married in Italy during summer 2020&mdashbut the pandemic had other plans. The couple had pushed back their wedding date twice before calling it off.

"We had planned what we really, really wanted to do," Jennifer said in an interview for Elle&rsquos February 2021 issue. "I don&rsquot know if we&rsquoll be able to recreate that. We canceled it and since then, we haven&rsquot really talked about it."

At the time, J.Lo also said that "there&rsquos no rush" and that the couple wants "to do it right when we can do it." She added, "We just have to wait to see where the world lands."

News of their breakup began when Page Six reported J.Lo and A-Rod had ended their engagement.

Miami sources told the publication that the former fiancés were on the rocks before calling off their wedding (originally postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic). A source familiar with A-Rod said, "He&rsquos now in Miami getting ready for baseball season, and she&rsquos filming her movie in the Dominican Republic."

Multiple sources also confirmed the split to People, with a source saying, "This has been a long time coming."

The rough patch appears to have occurred a few months after rumors that Alex had cheated on Jennifer with Southern Charm star Madison LeCroy, but it's unclear if that had anything to do with the "issues they hope they can work through" as a couple.

Last month, sources close to the former baseball play told The New York Post that "he doesn&rsquot know this woman." Meanwhile, Madison told Page Six that she and A-Rod have "never met up," but that they&rsquod "spoken on the phone." She added that they&rsquove "never been physical&hellipnever had any kind of anything. Just an acquaintance."

A source told People in March that the couple was putting in the work to stay together. A-Rod reportedly flew to the Dominican Republic where J.Lo is filming her upcoming romantic comedy, Shotgun Wedding, to work things out. "Jennifer was excited to see him in person," the source said. "They want to spend time in person to figure out their life together."

But recent events have took a toll on their relationship. "The past few days were upsetting and stressful," the source said in March. "She and Alex have a lot of issues they hope they can work through, but they both seem willing to do whatever it takes to stay together."

Unfortunately, it wasn&rsquot enough. J-Lo and A-Rod shared in a joint statement to TODAY on Thursday that they had ended their engagement. "We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,&rdquo the statement reads. The former couple said that they will &ldquocontinue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects.&rdquo And that they &ldquowish the best for each other and one another&rsquos children."

Jennifer Lopez's love history: P Diddy, Ben Affleck, Marc Anthony, Casper Smart and more

Will the gorgeous 44-year-old EVER meet her Mr Right? We hope so!

After announcing she still loves Casper Smart as a "good friend" and talking about her "good moments" with ex Ben Affleck, let&aposs take a look back at Jennifer Lopez&aposs romantic history.

Despite her gorgeous Latino looks and world-famous curves, the superstar has a somewhat checkered love CV, which has included three divorces, a last-minute wedding cancellation and a lot of headlines.

"In my limited experience, I would have to say anybody involved in music," she told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live. "So I would say singers and dancers."

Read the 44-year-old&aposs relationship highs and lows below.

1984-1994

At the tender age of 15, budding star Jen started dating David Cruz. Together, they moved from New York to Los Angeles when she got her first job as a backing dancer in the show In Living Colour. The couple stuck together for ten years, until their split in 1994.

David might be ancient history now but he still holds the record for keeping hold of Jen for the longest length of time. Go Dave!

1997-1998

Jennifer thought she&aposd met the love of her life in the shape of Cuban waiter Ojanu Noa, who she married in 1997, but the union lasted less than a year.

Two years after the divorce, Ojani tried to use photos and 11 hours of video footage to make a film about their life together. Horrified, Jen filed a $10million suit to stop him and a court granted a temporary restraining order.

Determined Ojani exploited a legal loophole and sold the home videos to producer Claudia Vazquez. But J-Lo fought back a second time and managed to get another restraining order.

Is it just us who&aposd like to see that film?

1999-2001

While working on her first album, On The 6, Jen hit it off with bad boy rapper/producer Sean Combs, aka P Diddy.

But Diddy found himself in deep water in December 1999 when he was arrested in relation to a shooting at a Manhattan nightclub. Diddy was arrested on weapons charges and Jen, who was with him at the time, was also charged but the count was dropped within an hour.

The relationship never recovered and they split soon after.

2001-2002

The blossoming superstar then married Cris Judd in September 2001 after meeting when he directed her music video Love Don&apost Cost a Thing.

But her second marriage wasn&apost to be either, lasting just nine months with a divorce the following June.

Cris later blamed the split on J-Lo&aposs dedication to her burgeoning career. No man&aposs going to keep this diva down!

2002-2004

Having dated a musician and married a dancer, J-Lo then set her sights on an actor in Ben Affleck. The super-couple became known as "Bennifer" and got engaged in November 2002.

The Bennifer wedding was set for September 2003 but just hours before the ceremony, the nuptials were put on hold, blamed on "excessive media attention."

Three months later Ben spoke out to say the couple were taking a break from the limelight but they split the following month.

2004-2012

Jenny from the Block got together with her long-time friend and smoldering salsa singer Marc Anthony in early 2004. They quickly got married and went on to have twins Max and Emme in February 2008.

First pictures of the kids appeared in People magazine a month later for a reported $6 million.

When the couple celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary, we hoped Jen&aposs third marriage would stick but Marc filed for divorce in April 2012.

Jen later opened up about the split, saying "The pain hurt so much."

2012-2014

Just months after the singer divorced Marc, she started dating 27-year-old choreographer Casper Smart.

Everything seemed to be bumping along nicely until the dancer faced accusations he was flirting online with transsexual model Sofie Vissa and just days later they announced their split - but insisted they&aposd actually gone their separate ways two months earlier.

Speaking on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Thursday, J Lo said: "I&aposve dated two dancers. One, I had a brief marriage with, Cris Judd, who is an amazing person and whom I love, and then Beau [Casper Smart], who we just broke up, who I love as well.

After he appeared in her First Love music video, it seems our Jen has hit it off with British model David Gandy. She recently hinted that she has a little crush on the gorgeous model, describing him as "perfect".

Could David be next in line to receive some Lopez love?

He&aposs not a dancer or a singer, but it looks like Jen will forgive him that!

During a 2017 appearance on Live With Kelly, Lopez shared that she was working with Anthony following their divorce. And while she was worried about adding in a professional element to their relationship, it turned out well for them. "He's helping me make my Spanish album," she said. "It's been awesome." (It seems the album hasn't yet come to fruition, seeing as Lopez hasn't put out a full album since 2014, but she has released a number of songs.)

The mom of two continued, "We're just in a really great place. And the kids, they get to spend time with the two of us more together and see us working together. It's good for them. It's good for use. It's just good for the whole family." She added, "We're always going to be great friends. I'm always going to be there for him. He's always going to be there for me."

In her post of Emme and Anthony, Lopez also wrote "#Coconuts," which is her nickname for her twins.

During a 2012 appearance on The Tonight Show, she explained the name: "That comes from when they were little and in their cribs and they started growing hair, and it looked just like a coconut—to me. Every time I saw them, I was like, 'Oh, my little coconut! Come here!' It just stuck." She said that she even has a necklace with two coconuts on it and their initials.

Is Bennifer 2.0 back on? Seventeen years after splitting, Ben and Jennifer headed to a weeklong vacation together at a private resort in Montana in May 2021, three weeks after her split from fiance Alex Rodriguez. Photo: FeatureFlash/Shutterstock

Following Jennifer and Alex’s Apr. 15 2021 announcement that they were splitting up for good and better off as “friends,” Jennifer was photographed hanging out with Ben in Los Angeles on Apr. 30. He was photographed getting out of her white SUV, but reports claimed that the two were just enjoying reconnecting and spending time together as friends. But the pair seemed to take things to the next level by going on a weeklong vacation together to Montana a few days later.

Everything You Need to Know About Jennifer Lopez's Multiple Drama-Filled Divorces

Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to publicized breakups. She recently split from her ex-fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, after cheating rumors began circulating. The former power couple was planning their wedding before their dramatic split. Multiple outlets reported that their engagement was off, but they initially denied the reports.

Ultimately it turned out to be true and they

A-Rod would have been J.Lo's fourth husband. Her three marriages have happened within a 17-year period. So, what went wrong with her past relationships? Well, we're glad you asked.

Ojani Noa

First, let's travel back in time to J.Lo's first hubby. She was still an up-and-coming singer when she married Ojani Noa. Their marriage lasted a month short of a year and they divorced in January 1998.

But, the drama came post-split. In August 2007, a court-appointed arbitrator issued a permanent injunction that forbids him from &ldquocriticizing, denigrating, casting in a negative light or otherwise disparaging&rdquo Jennifer. This was a result of him trying to publish a book about their marriage. Shady, much?

Cris Judd

Next up, we have Mr. Cris Judd. Ever heard of him? Us neither. Jennifer met him on the set of her "Love Don't Cost a Thing" music video, which he directed. He was also a dancer and choreographer at the time. Their marriage lasted shorter than her first. They split in 2002 after nine months together and their divorce was finalized the following year. Allegedly, stress from the paparazzi drove them apart.

"You know it's very tough," Cris told Us Weekly in 2014."Your privacy is breached. You're no longer a normal person. [Our wedding] was a circus. I think several people got arrested trying to climb up a mountain&hellip trying to sneak in. We actually rented the airspace."

Although he claimed that "it had no bearing on the outcome of their relationship. He added, "Unfortunately, it just didn't work out."

Marc Anthony

And that brings us to Marc Anthony, J.Lo's longest marriage to date. She and Marc tied the knot in June 2004 and share 13-year-old twins, Maximillian and Emmy. They announced their split in 2011.

"When my marriage ended, it was not easy to find forgiveness," she admitted during an interview with W in April 2016. "It wasn&rsquot the dream that I had hoped for, and it would have been easier to fan the flames of resentment, disappointment, and anger. But Marc is the father of my children, and that&rsquos never going away. So I have to work to make things right. And that is, by far, the hardest work I do."

Now that A-Rod's out of the picture, I wonder who will be the fourth Mr. Jennifer Lopez.
